Letters from Students

After living with my mother and coming to the Sue Duncan Children’s Center, I have grown to realize that reading is very fundamental. I live with three brothers, one sister, and my single mother. Our household can be very hectic and having a book around to read helps bring unity to the family. Reading together as a family brings knowledge to everyone in my household. Reading books are important because it can enhance your vocabulary and it can be a way to turn reading into your hobby. The Sue Duncan Children’s Center has also helped me realize that having books is better than watching television, because watching T.V. will not advance your creativity.

It is good to have books in your home because if you don’t have anything to do, a book is there for you to read. You can read about things that you’ve never seen or heard before. You can learn about new things. During the week, I’m not allowed to watch T.V. so if there is a book in my house; I am more likely to read. You can read a poetry book and learn how someone else feels.

Why is important for kids to have books at home because is good to learn words and also so you can learn things from a book. Also so you can learn how to write. Then so you can know how to spell a word. Also if you don’t have anything to do at home you can grab a book and start to read. Then so you could learn how to read.
Amela (5th grade bilingual classroom)
It makes you learn some words and you know how to spell them and you know how to read and it mark you smart and you learn your lesson and get so much smarter.
Remi (5th grade bilingual classroom)

It is important for kids to have books at home because they would be able to learn more at home and when the teacher ask them questions at school you will know it because you have study at home. And also it is important because you will know how to spell better when you have study it at home. So that is why it is important for kids to have books at home.

First you can show your sister or brother to practice reading. And when your sister or brother go to school they will be the excellent students. You all ways know something new like a world if the book is fiction or nonfiction that’s something new. All the people need to practice reading.
